Getting Started: How to Use Gridsight and the Gridsight Dashboard

This guide walks you through the essentials of getting started: navigating the dashboard, understanding the core sections, and how to use the platform.

Gridsight gives you real-time visibility into the performance, safety, and behaviour of your network. Whether you’re investigating customer voltage issues, validating Distributed Energy Resources (DER) impacts, or monitoring network health, the platform brings your smart meter data to life so you can make faster, more confident operational decisions.

Dashboard Overview

When you log in to Gridsight, you’ll be taken directly to the "Dashboard". This is your central hub for monitoring network performance.

It provides a quick overview of key metrics, including data completeness, customer compliance, the number of Geographic Information System (GIS) assets, and a high-level summary of DER detections and High Impedance Detection (HID) faults.

From here, you can quickly assess overall network status and navigate to detailed reports for deeper analysis.

Along the top row of the dashboard, you’ll find key summary metrics that provide a quick snapshot of network status:

  • Latest Data Load – shows the most recent data load in the platform. Smart meter data is typically updated on a daily basis.

  • Total Detected PV – displays the total size of detected solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems

  • Unreviewed High Impedance Faults – indicates how many Neutral and Phase faults are sitting in unreviewed status from the last 30 days

Meter Data Completeness

The "Meter Data Completeness" chart displays expected vs actual meter data over time, helping you track data availability and identify any gaps across different meter sources.

Chart Details

  • X-axis: Date (Weekly)

  • Y-axis: The count of readings actually received as a proportion of the count of readings expected. This metric takes the frequency of each meter taken into account - for example, an hourly frequency meter would be expected to supply 24 readings per day. When the As Percentage (%) slider is switched off the graph instead depicts counts of meters that are reporting their expected number of readings.

  • Meter Sources: Individual data sources can be toggled on or off to focus on specific inputs.

How to Use

  • Toggle between % expected and # actual meters to compare completeness by measure.

  • Select or deselect meter sources to isolate specific data types.

  • Hover over the graph to see detailed actual vs expected values for each date.

  • Expand the view for easier inspection, and ability to zoom in.

Watchlist

In the "Watchlist" section you can browse existing asset watchlists or create new ones. Watchlists allow you to track specific assets for ongoing monitoring or review.

For more details on creating and managing watchlists, see the Watchlists section at the end of this document.

Network Customer Compliance

The "Network Customer Compliance" chart shows how customer voltage compliance has changed over the last year across all zones. It helps visualise trends in network performance and identify periods of increased non-compliance.

Chart details

  • Type: Line graph displaying compliance categories over a 12-month period.

  • X-axis: Time (by day, week or month, depending on selected view).

  • Y-axis:

    • Represents either the % of customers or the # of customers.

    • Toggle between these using the control above the chart.

  • Lines / Series:

    • Non-Compliant – Total customers outside pre-defined voltage limits.

    • Undervoltage – Customers with sustained low voltage.

    • Overvoltage – Customers with sustained high voltage.

    • Sag – Short-duration voltage dips.

    • Swell – Short-duration voltage rises.

For more details please refer to the “Voltage Analysis & Compliance” article.

How to use

  • Hover over any point to see the exact metric value and date.

  • Enable or disable categories in the legend to focus on specific compliance types.

  • Toggle between # and % of customers using the control above the chart.

  • Track trends over the year to identify seasonal or network-specific voltage behaviour.

  • Navigate to the Voltage Performance report using the button at the bottom.

Metered vs. GIS Data

The "Metered vs. GIS Data" shows the number of GIS assets linked to meter data, helping assess how comprehensively metering information is integrated across the network.

Section Details

  • Substations – number of zones with associated meter data out of the total number of zones

  • Transformers – substations with connected meter data out of total substations

  • Customers – customers with available meter data out of total customers

  • Meter Data Coverage Days – the number of days covered and the date range showing the earliest and latest available meter data

  • Navigate to the Network Explorer using the button at the bottom.

Battery Detection

The "Battery Detection" section section shows a comparison between detected and recorded battery systems across the network, helping validate detection accuracy and identify gaps in recorded data.

Section Details

  • Registered – Battery detected and recorded

  • Unlisted – Battery detected but nothing recorded

  • Undetected – Battery recorded but nothing detected

Interacting with Gridsight

To search for assets in the Network Explorer you can use the search bar in the top right-hand corner, or by pressing ctrl + Spacebar.

You can also toggle to "Search by Address Instead" if you want to open at a specific address.

In the top-right corner of the dashboard, you’ll find quick-access icons for key actions:

  • Chat – open a conversation with the Gridsight team for support or questions, or submit a feature request.

  • Changelog – view recent product updates and feature releases. A red dot appears when new updates are available.

  • Profile Menu – access options such as Data Extracts and Uploads, or log out of the platform.

Click the Menu icon in the top-left corner of the dashboard to open the navigation panel. This panel gives you quick access to all available reports and tools within Gridsight.

The navigation panel is organised into 4 main sections:

  • Dashboard and Network Explorer

  • Network Performance

  • DER Detection

  • Safety

Use these categories to move between different areas of analysis and monitoring across the platform.

By clicking on the date a drop down appears that allow you to select a time period, or "Go to the most recent data".

You can also chose from a Daily, Weekly, Monthly or All Time view. Please note All Time is only available for certain information.

Watchlist: How to use

The "Watchlists" feature allows you to create and manage custom lists of assets for ongoing monitoring or follow-up. All watchlists and their contents are visible to other users within your organisation. Be mindful of what you include or describe.
